Public invited to another look at new Sellar Bridge design

The public is invited to get another look at the new design for the Wenatchee end of the George Sellar Bridge project at an open house from 3 to 7 p.m. Nov. 4 at the Wenatchee Community Center, 504 S. Chelan Ave., Wenatchee.
The new design calls for widening the SR285 bridge over Wenatchee Avenue and adding a westbound off ramp that will connect to Crescent Street. A new signal will be installed at the Crescent and Ferry intersection. The intersection of SR285 and Mission Street will have two left turn lanes turning southbound onto Mission Street toward Mission Ridge and two northbound.
The $20.8 million project is scheduled for construction in the summer of 2012, the third phase of a larger project now underway.
The first phase, a $17.5 million project adding an Eastbound lane onto the bridge, started May 11 and will continue while weather permits this fall. It will be completed in the fall of 2010.
The second phase of the project, expected to go to bid in April, includes a two-lane, one-way bypass for southbound SR 28 traffic, that will start at the eastbound off-ramp from SR 285 at the George Sellar Bridge and connect to SR 28 south of 3rd Street SE. The current ramp for southbound SR 28 traffic to Grant Road will be removed and this traffic will get to Grant Road from the bypass by turning left between Fred Meyer and Top Food. A third left turn lane from SR 28 onto Grant Road and an added lane up Grant Road will also be built. That phase is expected to cost a $28 million.
