The Wenatchee Festival of Trees has announced the designer awards for the elaborately decorated trees, mini trees and wreaths that were on display at the Red Lion Hotel in Wenatchee on Nov. 21 and 22.

New boat barrier will protect fish and swimmers at Chelan Falls

A new boat barrier will be installed at the mouth of the Chelan River for safety and to keep motorized watercraft away from the new $16 million fish channel and spawning habitat downstream from the powerhouse.

Second straight year of record enrollment at state’s two-year colleges

The State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) announced record fall enrollments at the state’s 34 community and technical colleges.
Fall enrollments are estimated to reach 146,500 full-time equivalent students, an increase of nearly 9.5 percent over last fall’s record enrollment levels. For the year, enrollments are estimated at 162,000 FTES.

Three companies in Washington, Oregon and Idaho are the target of enforcement actions for their failure to follow federal pesticide laws, according to orders issued by the Environmental Protection Agency.

Link Transit’s trolleys free during December

All of Link Transit’s trolleys operating in downtown Wenatchee, East Wenatchee and Cashmere will be fare-free during the month of December.
Trolleys operating in Leavenworth and Chelan have been fare free since July thanks to partnerships formed with organizations in each of those cities.

Laura Herrera, owner of downtown boutique Drop Dead Fabulous at 100 N. Wenatchee Ave., Wenatchee, used bras and a basketball hoop to raise breast cancer awareness and raise money for the NCW Rural Health Foundation.
